'I CAN MAKE IT’ SEWING SKILLS PROGRAM - Sewing Skills for Beginners

If you have always wanted to learn how to sew and begin to make your own clothes, these courses are for you!

In our Sewing Skills Program, we offer four courses over 12 months, beginning with the basics and how to use a sewing machine and moves on to intermediate level sewing techniques and following a pattern. Our program also covers upcycling op shop finds in our repairs and alterations in the last two courses and mending techniques. We are mindful of being sustainable, recycling and saving items going to landfill. Notes will be provided and you will develop your skills to learn cutting, measuring, following a pattern and a variety of sewing techniques.

Sewing Skills For Beginners - Term 3 and 4

In this beginner's course, students will begin learning basic sewing techniques by making a variety of items including:

❶ a pin cushion,

❷ rice bags (for anchoring your patterns instead of pins)

❸ fabric covered folder using handmade bias binding,

❹ zippered pencil case

❺ tote bag!

Sewing machines provided and you will be provided with notes on techniques to guide you with your progress. Students will be required to bring a simple sewing kit.

Hands on learning opportunities to increase your confidence to rejoin the workforce, return to study, towards starting your own business or for volunteering in the community. This is an ACFE pre-accredited class, conditions apply.
